About
In 2009 The Contemporary Women Writers' Club created our launch collection of short stories, The Leap Year, which we published independently through our own imprint, Queenbee Press. The media and public response was tremendous. We made number 4 on The Amazon Short Story Bestseller list and gained some amazing critical reviews.
Our exciting venture received widespread media coverage, including features in The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Mail, Red Magazine and on national and local radio programmes including BBC Radio London, Radio Oxfordshire and Radio Berkshire.
Reader Reviews
I loved this book. The stories were very original, engaging, and really took you to the countries and cities where they are set. The women's emotional journeys are convincing and gripping. And sometimes funny (in a good way).
A really good read, and the stories, and characters, linger in your mind for a long time afterwards. I'd definitely recommend it.
A great read, and one in the eye for the old style publishing trade. Well written stories that held the interest all through.Great read! "By women; for women, about women" I was told, well maybe, but much enjoyed by this man!
Compelling stories; wide range of locations and topics keeping it moving at pace. Highly recommended. What an excellent and exciting book that kept me reading on and on.
A fantastic read, definitely worth buying as full of inventive and refreshing stories.
I was taken by this book! First, when I read in newspaper articles about the collection of women writers.. their lives, backgrounds and aspirations. Second, when I read it! And aren't short stories far harder to write than novels? (check out Bernard Shaw on the art of brevity!). This book does it for me. It gets my vote!
I heard about this book through a friend who saw the article about these six amazing women in the Evening Standard. I devoured it almost in one go. I found it inspirational and was moved by many of the stories. I am so interested in this concept of women's writing groups and self-publishing and I wish them all luck in the world.
